Does AllSouth offer overdraft protection/overdraft privilege and what does it cost?

Overdraft Privilege is a discretionary service provided by AllSouth to qualifying accounts. Rather than automatically returning unpaid all insufficient items that you may have, we will consider, without obligation on our part, payment of your reasonable overdrafts up to your assigned Overdraft Privilege limit. For personal Freedom Checking account holders, the limit is $500; for Interest Checking account holders, the limit is $750.

You do not have to apply for this service. If you do not use Overdraft Privilege, it will cost you nothing. "Use" means you initiate transactions resulting in insufficient funds. If you do use Overdraft Privilege, you will be charged our customary fee as set out in our fee schedule. You may opt-out at any time.

Why is there a difference in my Current Balance and Available Balance?

Your Current Balance reflects all the transactions that have cleared your account. Current balance does not reflect holds or pending transactions.

Available balance is different. This is the portion of your balance that's available for use now. It's the current balance minus any holds or pending debit transactions.

  • Your available balance may not reflect a recent deposit due to a check hold.
  • If you use your Debit Card for purchases, those transactions may not post immediately. There may be a hold placed on your account at the time the merchant requests purchase authorization but the actual charge may take a few days to be submitted and withdrawn from your account.

It's important to know that if the Available Balance in your account is negative, your account is considered to be overdrawn.
